Good morning!
As promised, an update on the progress of our new Samosa business.
As you will remember
from the last post, we have decided to launch an entirely new online business
dealing in the manufacturing of a savory called a samosa. This is an overview
of the main strategies and technologies we have decided upon.
1. Our target market:
Being manufacturers of
our own product, our initial thought had been to supply the wholesale and
retail trade. We decided against this strategy based on the following
considerations:
a) Margins on this
product are quite slim and adding additional steps to the distribution channel,
would of necessity mean the end user would be paying more.
b) We wanted to maintain
control of the quality of the product. In supplying in bulk to wholesaler and
retailers we would be handing over the final "presentation" of our
samosa to people whose skill levels in frying and general hygienic handling of
foods is unknown.
This led us to the
decision to manufacture market and deliver our samosa directly to the consumer.
We will cut out the entire distribution channel and hope the value add we bring
to market is not only price but also quality. In so doing ,we plan to
create a consumer driven pressure for bigger retailers to stock our brand- this
might give us better bargaining strength that allows us to be more prescriptive
in how they present and handle our products.
Our picture
of the end user is:
-
Someone
planning a party or celebration at home
-
People
who love samosa but do not have the skill or time to prepare it themselves
So, the
tools we are going to use on the marketing end will be
-
Website
– very simple landing page with contact details, catalogue and prices and
online payment system
-
Whatsapp
for business- also with contact details, catalogue and prices
-
Facebook
ads will be a consideration further down the process
-
Distribution
of physical pamphlets to households.
In terms of
timelines we hope to have both the website and the whatsapp sorted by month end
and plan to have pamphlets printed a week thereafter.
So, all very
exciting and we look forward to sharing our journey with you!
Cheers till
next time!
Brandon and
Leona
